Travel Update: KTM Komuter Northern Region New Schedule Starting 24th July 2026

    Attention commuters in Penang, Kedah, Perlis, and Perak! Keretapi Tanah Melayu Berhad (KTMB) is enhancing the KTM Komuter Northern Region (Sektor Utara) service with a new schedule effective Friday, 24th July 2026.

    To accommodate growing passenger demand and elevate comfort during peak travel hours, KTMB is expanding daily operations from 56 to 62 services across both northern routes.

    πŸš† What’s Changing in the New Schedule?

    1. Padang Besar Line (Butterworth ⇄ Padang Besar)

    • 2 Additional Daily Trips added to the route.

    • Faster Peak Commutes: Evening peak-hour waiting times are reduced from 60 minutes to just 30 minutes.

    2. Ipoh Line (Butterworth ⇄ Ipoh)

    • 4 Additional Daily Trips added to the line.

    • Better Morning Frequencies: More journey in the morning, reducing your wait times during your morning commute

    • Extended Service Hours: Nighttime service hours have been extended in both directions, giving you more flexibility when returning home late.

    πŸšƒ More Space & Comfort: 6-Car Trains Introduced on the Ipoh Line

    To tackle crowding, 6 train trips daily (3 trips in each direction) on the Ipoh Line will now be operated using 6-car train sets (SCS).
