London Weekend Travel Changes

    Here is your weekly travel update to help you get around London this week.

    Underground – Metropolitan Line


    On Saturday 9 and Sunday 10 March, there will be no service between Aldgate and Wembley Park. This is due to track and ballast replacement work. Use alternative Tube and local bus routes.

     

    Overground


    Tonight, Thursday 7 March, there will be no southbound service from Sydenham to West Croydon after 23:45. This is due to Network Rail track work. Use local bus services.

    On Saturday 9 March, due to Network Rail infrastructure work there will be no service between:
    • Richmond / Clapham Junction and Stratford until 07:00. Use local bus services
    • Gospel Oak and Barking until 07:00. Use alternative Tube and local bus services. Rail replacement buses will run between Walthamstow Central and Barking
    • Liverpool Street and Enfield Town / Cheshunt (via Seven Sisters) / Chingford until 07:15. Use alternative Tube and local bus routes. Rail replacement buses will run
    • Camden Road and Willesden Junction (westbound) after 23:59. Use local bus services

    On Saturday 9 and Sunday 10 March, there will be no service between Romford and Upminster. This is due to Crossrail construction work. Use local bus routes 165, 248 or 370.

    On Saturday 9 and Sunday 10 March, there will be a reduced service between Gospel Oak and Barking. Trains will run every 15 to 30 minutes. For weekend train times, check our Journey Planner on the day of travel. A reduced weekend service will continue on this route until further notice due to a lack of available trains.

    On Sunday 10 March, there will be no service between Willesden Junction and Shepherd’s Bush until 11:00. This is due to Network Rail track work. Use local bus routes 220 or 228.

    From Monday 11 until Thursday 14 March, there will be no service between Hackney Downs and Enfield Town / Cheshunt (via Seven Sisters) after 22:45 each evening. This is due to Network Rail track work. Use alternative Tube and local bus routes. Rail replacement buses will run

     

    TfL Rail


    On Saturday 9 and Sunday 10 March, there will be no service between Liverpool Street and Shenfield. This is due to overhead electrical line renewal and track work. Rail replacement buses will run between Stratford and Romford, and between Chadwell Heath and Shenfield, also stopping at Newbury Park.

     

    Emirates Air Line


    From Monday 11 until Sunday 17 March, Emirates Air Line will be closed. This is due to planned maintenance work.

     

    London Trams


    On Sunday 10 March, there will be no service between Sandilands and Birkbeck / Elmers End until 16:00. This is due to bridge replacement work. Tram replacement buses will run between East Croydon and Birkbeck / Elmers End.

     

     Buses and Roads


    Bus and road users may be affected by the following changes this weekend. TfL expect to run a good service, but buses may be delayed, diverted or stop short of their normal destination.

    • Baker Street – Baker Street and Gloucester Place have now been switched to two-way traffic, and a number of bus routes have been realigned as a result. Please make sure you check before you travel to find out whether your bus has been affected.
    • Pedestrians crossing the road should look both ways and be careful as traffic gets used to the new system.
    • Clapham – Until 15:00 today, Thursday 7 March, Clapham Common North Side’s contra-flow bus lane will be closed westbound at the junction of [A3] The Avenue. This is due to Thames Water works.
    • Piccadilly – From Saturday 9 until Friday 15 March, Piccadilly Underpass will be closed in both directions between 08:00 and 16:00 each day. This is due to maintenance by Westminster Council.
    • Whitehall – From 10:00 until 13:00 on Saturday 9 March, A3212 Whitehall will be closed in all directions. This is due to a demonstration.
    • Trafalgar Square – From 11:00 until 17:00 on Saturday 9 March, Trafalgar Square will be closed in all directions. This is due to a demonstration.
    • Westminster – From 12:00 until 16:00 on Saturday 9 March, there will be a march from Duke Street to Trafalgar Square via Oxford Street, Regent Street, Piccadilly Circus, Haymarket and Cockspur Street. There will be various road closures and short traffic holds along the route. These will be enforced by the Metropolitan Police.
    • Twickenham Stadium – From 16:00 until 18:30 on Saturday 9 March, Twickenham Stadium will host the Six Nations rugby match between England and Italy. Large crowds and increased traffic levels are expected in the Twickenham area. Roads likely to be affected include the A316 Chertsey Road, all roads leading to Twickenham station and roads surrounding the stadium.
    • Central London – From 04:00 until 15:00 on Sunday 10 March, there will be various road closures in place for The Big Half marathon. Roads north of the river will be closed between 04:00 and 12:30, including Tower Bridge, Limehouse Link Tunnel and Aspen Way. Highway, Butcher Row and West India Dock Road will be closed between 07:00 and 12:30.
    • Road closures south of the river will be in place between 07:00 and 15:00, including Jamaica Road eastbound, Salter Road, Redriff Road, Evelyn Street, Creek Road and the Greenwich one-way system.
    • Westminster – From 12:00 until 15:00 on Sunday 10 March, Parliament Square will be closed in all directions. This is due to a march. A group will form up Waterloo Place and march to Parliament Square via Pall Mall, Cockspur Street, Trafalgar Square and Whitehall. Delays are expected.
    • Central London – On Monday 11 and Tuesday 12 March, A10 Norton Folgate will be closed southbound at the junction of Worship Street from 22:00 until 05:00 both nights. This is due to junction improvement works.

     

     Santander Cycles


    The following docking stations will be out of service this weekend:

    • Rodney Street, Angel, for health and safety reasons
    • Hyde Park Corner, Hyde Park, part suspended for health and safety reasons
    • Cardinal Place, Victoria, removed due to building works
    • Upper Richmond Road, East Putney, due to building works
    • Whiteley’s, Bayswater, due to building works
    • Appold Street, Liverpool Street, due to site relocation
    • Portugal Street, Holborn, due to building works
