Route 28 Free Fare Pilot
For three months from Sunday, August 29, through Monday, November 29, 2021, service on Route 28 will be free.
Route 28 travels through Roxbury and Dorchester, making stops between Mattapan and Ruggles stations.
Free ADA-Compliant RIDE ServiceDuring the pilot period, The RIDE paratransit service will also be free for customers making trips that begin and end within 3/4 mile of Route 28 bus service. The RIDE Flex program is excluded from this free pilot.
Transfers to and from Other RoutesTransfers to and from other routes are not included in this pilot. Route 28 riders will need to pay a regular fare if they transfer to another bus or subway line.
Tell MBTA What You ThinkThis pilot is a partnership between the MBTA and the City of Boston, which is sponsoring this project. They will collect and evaluate data such as participant survey responses and ridership information throughout the pilot.
