NJ Transit is updating fares today. Here is what you need to know:

    Bus

    • $1.90 – $59.10 (On-Way, Full Adult Fare)
    • Fares are Priced by Number of Zones Traveled.
    • When purchasing your fare, select your origin and destination for your full fare.

    Light Rail

    • $1.90 – $2.65 (One Way, Full Adult Fare)
    • Fares are priced by route. (Hudson-Bergen Line is $2.65, others are $1.90)
    • When purchasing your fare, select your route.

    Rail

    • $1.80 – $23.85 (One Way, Full Adult Fare)
    • Fares are priced by origin and destination.
    • When purchasing your fare, select your origin and destination for your full fare.

    Transfers:

    • If you are transferring between two bus trip legs within New Jersey, you can purchase separate tickets for each leg. Or you can save $0.95-$1.00 on your trip by purchasing a transfer ticket on board. Transfers are not issued or accepted for Interstate trips.
    • Purchasing a Transfer Ticket
When you board the first bus of your trip, ask the driver for a transfer ticket and pay $0.85 if traveling in North Jersey or $0.80 if traveling in South Jersey. Transfers must be purchased in cash, and drivers will not make change on exact fare routes. Transfer tickets are valid on bus or light rail for two hours after purchase. Transfers are valid for traveling one zone on the second leg of your trip.
    • Traveling More than One Zone After Transferring
If traveling more than one zone after transferring, you will have to pay an override fee on the second bus when redeeming your transfer. The override fee is calculated by subtracting $1.80 from what the trip leg would have cost if purchased as a stand-alone ticket. (Passengers paying the discounted rate subtract $0.85.) Override fees must be paid in cash, and drivers will not make change on exact fare routes.

Trips With Two or More Transfers
You can’t use a transfer ticket to get another transfer ticket. This means if your trip has three bus legs, you can only buy a transfer for one leg.

      Transferring to Light Rail
If you will be transferring from a bus route to light rail, follow the transfer purchase instructions above to purchase a transfer ticket when boarding the bus. When riding the light rail, keep the transfer ticket with you throughout your trip. Transfer tickets remain valid for two hours after purchase.

      Continuing Trip Tickets
Some transfers between specific routes allow customers to pay for multiple legs with a single ticket for no additional charge. Check your schedule to see if Continuing Trip Tickets are offered on your trip.
