Navigating Toronto During This Summer’s Major Soccer Championship

June 4, 2026

Your Ultimate Transit Guide to the Global Matches, Fan Zones, and Daily Commuting from June 11 to July 19, 2026

The world’s biggest soccer tournament is coming to Toronto, bringing hundreds of thousands of international visitors and significant enhancements to public transit. Toronto will proudly host six massive tournament matches this summer at the stadium at Exhibition Place (referred to during the tournament as Toronto Stadium) on June 12, June 17, June 20, June 23, June 26, and July 2, 2026. Whether you have a ticket to a match, are heading to a local fan celebration, or just trying to get to work, public transportation will look very different.

Because transit schedules are highly dynamic—with planned rail extensions, match-day rapid lanes, and live, real-time disruptions based on traffic—you can rely on Moovit for up-to-the-minute trip planning. Moovit tracks everything in real-time to ensure you get where you need to go smoothly.

🛑 Choose Your Journey Below:

⚽ 1. I Am Attending a Match at the Stadium

All matches are being held at Toronto Stadium (Exhibition Place). Because parking is extremely restricted and traffic will be heavily gridlocked, the TTC and GO Transit are expanding mass transit, but navigating the crowds requires planning.

  • Direct Rail Connections: Take the GO Train directly to Exhibition GO Station, located just steps from the stadium gates. On match days, GO Transit is adjusting schedules to support massive rider volumes to and from Exhibition GO.
  • Expanded Subway Service & Late-Night Extensions: The TTC is adding extra train capacity on Line 1 (Yonge-University) and Line 2 (Bloor-Danforth) for all six match days. Subway service will be extended significantly past its usual 1:30 AM close on the following key nights: June 12, June 17, June 23, July 2, July 3, and July 11.
  • Rapid Bus Lanes: The TTC is deploying the 829 Dufferin Gate Express on match days, providing non-stop shuttle service between Dufferin Station (Line 2) and the Dufferin Gate Loop. Both the regular 29 Dufferin and 929 Dufferin Express will run in dedicated rapid transit lanes to bypass traffic entirely.
  • 🚶 The Union Station Walking Route: During peak congestion, avoid the streetcars. A scenic, official 45-minute pedestrian walking route with clear wayfinding signage will connect Union Station directly to Toronto Stadium.

🎉 2. I Am Heading to Fan Events & Watch Parties

Official tournament fan festivals, watch parties, and public celebrations are taking over Fort York National Historic Site, The Bentway, and the Harbourfront Centre from June 11 to July 19.

  • 🔍 Find Your Celebration Instantly: Don’t waste time looking up exact venue addresses or street intersections. Simply search the term “Fan Zone” in the Moovit app to instantly pull up the quickest transit routes to all active event sites across the Greater Toronto Area.
  • 📍 Look for the Icons: When exploring the map in Moovit, keep an eye out for specially marked event icons highlighting exactly where the biggest official watch parties and tournament festivals are located.
  • High-Frequency Streetcars: Streetcar routes connecting directly to the major downtown fan zones and the Fleet Hub—including the 504 King, 509 Harbourfront, and 511 Bathurst—will operate on an enhanced schedule, running as frequently as every five minutes all day.
  • Transit Priority Lanes: The 511 Bathurst streetcar will run in dedicated rapid transit lanes to ensure reliable travel to the main fan festivals, while transit signal priority will be boosted on the 509 Harbourfront and 510 Spadina.

💼 3. I Am Navigating the City

If you are a local resident or daily commuter trying to navigate Toronto and the Greater Toronto and Hamilton Area (GTHA) without attending the festivities, expect significantly busier trains and buses, but also some major service upgrades.

  • Massive GO Transit Boost: Beginning June 10, GO Train service on both the Lakeshore West and Lakeshore East lines will be increased to run approximately every 15 minutes through most of the day, adding nearly 3,000 weekly train trips across the region.
  • Extended Regional Travel: For late-shift workers or commuters, late-night regional travel is expanded. The last Lakeshore West train will depart Union Station at 12:47 AM (last eastbound from Exhibition at 12:36 AM; westbound at 12:55 AM). The last Lakeshore East train departs Union at 12:50 AM. UP Express trains out of Union will run as late as 1:45 AM.

Free Transfers via One Fare: Remember that Ontario’s One Fare Program allows you to transfer for free between GO Transit, the TTC, and surrounding local agencies (like MiWay, YRT, and Durham Region Transit), making it seamless to switch routes if your usual commute is crowded.
