Sydney & NSW - Trackwork Monday 8 to Sunday 14 January 2024

    Here’s the update on scheduled trackwork affecting services. Plan your trip and work out any extra travel time you need. 

    • The biggest coordinated program of rail maintenance ever undertaken in Sydney has begun in response to te recent recommendations made by the expert panel conducting the Sydney Trains Review for restoring reliability to the network.
    • Maintenance work is being prioritized during the existing trackwork windows such as on weekends, weeknights, during school holidays or during weekday diversions when fewer people are catching trains. 
    • Train replacement buses may be impacted due to bus driver shortages. Consider catching local bus services where possible, or make alternative arrangements.

    City Circle

    Monday 8 January 

    • From 9.50pm to 11.55pm, trains run in one direction only, from Central first stop Museum.
    • From 11.55pm to 1.30am, trains run in one direction only, from Central first stop Town Hall.
    • Trains may start or end at Central, run to a changed timetable or leave from different platforms.
    • You may need to change trains to continue your journey.
    • The light rail runs in both directions between Circular Quay, Wynyard, Town Hall and Central. 

    Saturday 13 and Sunday 14 January

    • Trains run in one direction only, from Central first stop Town Hall.
    • Some trains may start or end at Central, run to a changed timetable or leave from different platforms.
    • You may need to change trains to continue your journey.
    • The light rail runs in both directions between Circular Quay, Wynyard, Town Hall and Central.

    T1 North Shore Line

    Monday 8 to Thursday 11 January

    • Nightly from 9.40pm to 1.30am, buses replace trains between Hornsby and Central.
    • Trains run between Berowra and Hornsby, some to a changed timetable.
    • T1 Western and T9 Northern Line trains start and end at Central, platforms 1-12.

    Friday 12 to Sunday 14 January  

    • From 10.30pm Friday, buses replace trains between North Sydney and Wynyard.
    • Trains run between Hornsby and North Sydney, some to a changed timetable.
    • Saturday and Sunday, T9 Northern Line trains run between Berowra and Central, platforms 1-12, via Strathfield.
    • From Wynyard, City Circle trains run in one direction only, first stop Circular Quay.
    • The light rail runs in both directions between Circular Quay, Wynyard, Town Hall and Central.
    • Saturday from 10.50pm to 5am, buses replace all trains between Strathfield and Central.
    • Trains run to a changed timetable between Berowra or Hornsby and Strathfield only.

    T1 Western Line

    Monday 8 to Wednesday 10 January

    • Nightly from 10pm to 4.10am, buses replace trains between Emu Plains and Blacktown.
    • Trains run between Blacktown and Central, platforms 1-12 only, some to a changed timetable.
    • Tuesday to Thursday, the 03:09 and 03:42 trains from Emu Plains to Blacktown will also be replaced by buses. 

    Friday 12 January

    • From 10.30pm, trains run between T1 Western Line stations and Central, platforms 1-12 only, making extra stops at Homebush and Burwood. 

    Saturday 13 and Sunday 14 January

    • Trains run between T1 Western Line stations and Central, platforms 1-12 only, making extra stops at Flemington, Homebush and Burwood.
    • Richmond trains run between Richmond and Leppington. Change trains at Parramatta to continue your journey towards Central.
    • Saturday from 10.50pm to 5am, buses replace all trains between Strathfield and Central. 

    T2 Inner West & Leppington Line

    Friday 12 January 

    • From 10.30pm to 2am, buses replace Inner West Line trains between Strathfield and Ashfield.
    • Trains run between Ashfield and the City Circle, some to a changed timetable.
    • Leppington trains continue to run but will not stop at Ashfield.
    • Most T1 Western Line trains make extra stops at Homebush and Burwood.

    Saturday 13 and Sunday 14 January

    • Buses replace Inner West Line trains between Strathfield and Central.
    • Trains run to a changed timetable between Leppington and Olympic Park only.
    • Change at Glenfield for direct trains to the City, or at Lidcombe for trains towards Central.
    • T1 Western Line Penrith trains make extra stops at Flemington, Homebush and Burwood.
    • Extra trains run between Leppington and Richmond.
    • Saturday from 10.50pm to 5am, buses replace all trains between Strathfield and Central. 

    T3 Bankstown Line

    Monday 8 to Friday 12 January

    • Buses replace trains between Lidcombe and Sydenham.
    • Trains run between Liverpool and the City via Regents Park, and between Sydenham and the City Circle, some to a changed timetable.
    • From 9.40pm Friday, buses replace trains between Cabramatta, Lidcombe and Sydenham.
    • Trackwork continues on parts of the T3 Bankstown Line until 25 January.

    Friday 12 to Sunday 14 January

    • From 9.40pm Friday, buses replace trains between Cabramatta, Lidcombe and Sydenham.
    • Trains run between Sydenham and the City Circle, to a changed timetable.
    • Some T4 Illawarra Line trains make extra stops at St Peters and Erskineville.
    • Trackwork continues on parts of the T3 Bankstown Line until 25 January.

    T4 Eastern Suburbs & Illawarra Line

    Saturday 13 and Sunday 14 January

    • Most Cronulla and some Waterfall trains make extra stops at St Peters and Erskineville.
    • Daily from 8am to 8pm, extra trains run between Hurstville and Bondi Junction.

    T5 Cumberland Line

    Saturday 13 and Sunday 14 January

    • Extra trains run between Richmond and Leppington.

    T8 Airport & South Line

    Saturday 13 and Sunday 14 January

    • Trains run to a changed timetable and stopping pattern.
    • Revesby trains run between Revesby and Central only, via the Airport.
    • Most Macarthur trains towards the City run via Sydenham. Change at Revesby for trains to Airport stations.
    • Trains from the City Circle run to Macarthur via the Airport.

    T9 Northern Line

    Monday 8 to Thursday 11 January

    • Nightly from 9.50pm to 1.30am, trains run between Hornsby and Central, platforms 1-12 only. 

    Friday 12 January

    • From 10.30pm, trains run between Hornsby and Central, platforms 1-12 only.

    Saturday 13 and Sunday 14 January

    • Daily until 8am, trains run between Berowra and Central, platforms 1-12, or between Hornsby and Epping only.
    • Daily from 8am, trains run between Berowra or Hornsby and Central, platforms 1-12 only.
    • Saturday from 10.50pm to 5am, buses replace all trains between Strathfield and Central.
    • Trains run to a changed timetable between Berowra or Hornsby and Strathfield only.

    Blue Mountains Line

    Monday 8 to Wednesday 10 January

    • Nightly from 10.50pm to 2am, buses replace some trains between Springwood and Blacktown.
    • Trains run to a changed timetable between Lithgow and Springwood, and between Blacktown and Central.
    • The 23:18 and 00:18 Central to Mount Victoria trains continue to run, but to a changed timetable and stopping pattern.

    Saturday 13 January   

    • From 11.20pm to 5am, buses replace trains between Blacktown and Central.
    • Trains run between Blue Mountains Line stations and Blacktown only, some to a changed timetable.
    • T1 Western Line trains run between Penrith and Strathfield only.

    Central Coast & Newcastle Line

    Saturday 13 January   

    • From 6am to 11am, at Cowan, all trains leave from platform 2.

    Saturday 13 January  

    • From 11pm to 5am, buses replace all trains between Strathfield and Central.
    • Trains run between Central Coast & Newcastle Line stations and Strathfield only. 

    Sunday 14 January  

    • From 6am to 11am, at Cowan, all trains leave from platform 1.

    South Coast Line

    Saturday 13 January  

    • From 7.30am to 11.30am, at Waterfall and Helensburgh, all trains leave from platform 1.
    • From 12pm to 4pm, at Helensburgh and Waterfall, all trains leave from platform 2. 

    Sunday 14 January  

    • From 7.30am to 11.30am, at Helensburgh and Otford, all trains leave from platform 1.
    • From 12pm to 4pm, at Otford and Helensburgh, all trains leave from platform 2.
