Sydney & NSW - Trackwork Monday 15 to Sunday 21 January 2024

    Here’s the update on scheduled trackwork affecting services. Plan your trip and work out any extra travel time you need. 

    • The biggest coordinated program of rail maintenance ever undertaken in Sydney has begun in response to te recent recommendations made by the expert panel conducting the Sydney Trains Review for restoring reliability to the network.
    • Maintenance work is being prioritized during the existing trackwork windows such as on weekends, weeknights, during school holidays or during weekday diversions when fewer people are catching trains. 
    • Train replacement buses may be impacted due to bus driver shortages. Consider catching local bus services where possible, or make alternative arrangements.

    Metro

    Tuesday 16 to Thursday 18 January

    • From 8pm, metro runs between Tallawong and Macquarie Park only.
    • Buses run between Macquarie University and Chatswood. 

    Friday 19 to Sunday 21 January

    • From 10.50pm Friday, trackwork on the T1 North Shore Line may affect how you travel.
    • If you are travelling to the City change at Epping, not Chatswood, for trains to Central.

    City Circle

    Monday 15 to Thursday 18 January 

    • Nightly from 10pm to 1.30am, trains will not run to Museum, St James or Circular Quay.
    • T1 North Shore & Western, T2 Inner West and T9 Northern Line trains continue to run between Central, Town Hall and Wynyard.
    • T4 Eastern Suburbs Line trains continue to run between Central, Town Hall, Martin Place and Kings Cross.

    Saturday 20 and Sunday 21 January   

    • Trains run in one direction only, from Central first stop Museum.
    • Some trains may start or end at Central, run to a changed timetable or leave from different platforms.
    • You may need to change trains to continue your journey.

    T1 North Shore Line

    Friday 19 January 

    • From 10.30pm to 2am, buses replace trains between Gordon and Wynyard.
    • Trains run between Hornsby and Gordon, some to a changed timetable. 

    Saturday 20 and Sunday 21 January    

    • Buses replace trains between Hornsby and Wynyard.
    • T9 Northern Line trains run to a changed timetable between Berowra or Hornsby and Central, platforms 1-12, via Strathfield.

    T1 Western Line

    Friday 19 to Sunday 21 January

    • From 10.40pm Friday, trains run between T1 Western Line stations and Central, platforms 1-12, only.
    • Saturday and Sunday, Richmond trains run to a changed timetable and stopping pattern between Richmond and Olympic Park only. Change trains at Parramatta to continue your journey towards the City.

    T2 Inner West & Leppington Line

    Monday 15 to Thursday 18 January 

    • Nightly from 10pm to 1.30am, due to City Circle trackwork, most trains run between Leppington and Central, platforms 1-12, via Granville, and will not stop at Ashfield.
    • Inner West trains run between Liverpool or Homebush and North Sydney, stopping at Ashfield. 

    Saturday 20 and Sunday 21 January 

    • Most Inner West trains run to a changed timetable between Liverpool and the City via Regents Park.
    • Saturday from 6.10am to 10.30am, buses replace trains between Cabramatta and Granville.
    • Trains run to a changed timetable between Leppington and the City via Regents Park.
    • Saturday from 1.30pm to 5.30pm, Inner West trains run between Ashfield and the City only.
    • You may need to change trains at Ashfield to continue your journey
    • Sunday from 6.30am to 10.30am, buses replace Inner West trains between Ashfield and Central.

    T3 Bankstown Line

    Monday 15 to Friday 19 January

    • Buses replace trains between Lidcombe and Sydenham.
    • Trains run between Liverpool and the City via Regents Park, and between Sydenham and the City Circle, some to a changed timetable.
    • Monday to Thursday, nightly from 10pm to 1.30am, due to City Circle trackwork, most trains run between Liverpool and North Sydney via Regents Park, and between Sydenham and Bondi Junction, making extra stops at St Peters and Erskineville.
    • Trackwork continues on parts of the T3 Bankstown Line until 25 January.

    Saturday 20 and Sunday 21 January

    • Buses replace trains between Lidcombe and Sydenham.
    • Trains run between Liverpool and the City via Regents Park. Some trains run between Liverpool and Lidcombe via Regents Park only. Change trains at Lidcombe to continue your journey.
    • Trackwork continues on parts of the T3 Bankstown Line until 25 January.

    T4 Eastern Suburbs & Illawarra Line

    Saturday 20 and Sunday 21 January  

    • All Cronulla and some Waterfall trains make extra stops at St Peters and Erskineville.
    • Daily from 8am to 2pm, extra trains run between Hurstville and Bondi Junction.

    T5 Cumberland Line

    Tuesday 16 and Wednesday 17 January  

    • Nightly from 11.50pm to 1.30am, some trains run to a changed timetable between Richmond or Leppington and Olympic Park only. Some trains start and end at Granville.
    • You may need to change trains at Granville to continue your journey. 

    Saturday 20 January  

    • Saturday from 6.10am to 10.30am, buses replace trains between Cabramatta and Granville.
    • Trains run to a changed timetable between Leppington and the City via Regents Park, and between Richmond or Schofields and Olympic Park.
    • You may need to change trains at Lidcombe to continue your journey.
    • From 10.30am to 12.30pm, trains run to a changed timetable between Leppington and the City via Granville, and between Schofields and Olympic Park.
    • You may need to change trains at Granville to continue your journey.

    T7 Olympic Park Line

    Saturday 20 and Sunday 21 January  

    • Extra trains run between Olympic Park and Richmond.

    T8 Airport & South Line

    Saturday 20 and Sunday 21 January  

    • Trains run to a changed timetable and stopping pattern. You may need to change trains to continue your journey.
    • Revesby trains run between Revesby and Central only.
    • Most Macarthur trains from the City run via Sydenham. Trains to the City run via the Airport.
    • Early morning and late evening trains run via the Airport but start and end at Central, platform 23.

    T9 Northern Line

    Monday 15 to Thursday 18 January  

    • Nightly from 10pm to 1am, buses replace trains between Hornsby and Rhodes.
    • Trains run between Rhodes and the City, to a changed timetable. 

    Friday 19 January  

    • From 10.40pm, trains run between Hornsby and Central, platforms 1-12 only. 

    Saturday 20 and Sunday 21 January

    • Some trains run to a changed timetable and stopping pattern.
    • Daily until 8am, trains run between Berowra and Central, platforms 1-12, or between Hornsby and Epping only.
    • Daily from 8am, trains run between Berowra or Hornsby and Central, platforms 1-12 only.

    Blue Mountains Line

    Saturday 20 and Sunday 21 January  

    • Trains may run to a changed timetable due to trackwork affecting trains between Strathfield and Central.

    Central Coast & Newcastle Line

    Monday 15 to Thursday 18 January  

    • Nightly from 10.50pm to 3am, trains run to a changed timetable via the T1 North Shore Line, making extra stops at Gordon, Chatswood, then all stations to Central.
    • Buses run between Strathfield and Hornsby to connect with Central Coast & Newcastle Line trains.
    • Some trains towards Newcastle Interchange run up to 30 minutes later than the normal timetable.
    • Tuesday to Friday, the 1.47am Central to Newcastle Interchange train will start from Hornsby at 2.23am.
    • A bus leaves Central at 1.21am, running express to Hornsby to connect with this train.

    Saturday 20 and Sunday 21 January  

    • Trains may run to a changed timetable due to trackwork affecting trains at Hornsby, and between Strathfield and Central.

    Hunter Line

    Thursday 18 January  

    • Buses replace the following trains between Maitland and Muswellbrook:
      • 08:14 Newcastle Interchange to Muswellbrook
      • 10:09 Muswellbrook to Newcastle Interchange.

    South Coast Line

    Thursday 18 January 

    • From 9.20am to 2.15pm, buses replace trains between Port Kembla and Wollongong.
    • Buses towards Wollongong may leave stations up to 15 minutes earlier than the normal train timetable. 

    Saturday 20 January  

    • From 7.30am to 11.30am, at Stanwell Park, all trains leave from platform 1.
    • From 12pm to 4pm, at Stanwell Park, all trains leave from platform 2.

    Sunday 21 January  

    • From 7.30am to 11.30am, at Scarborough, Wombarra and Coledale, all trains leave from platform 1.
    • From 12pm to 4pm, at Coledale, Wombarra and Scarborough, all trains leave from platform 2.
