Sydney & NSW - Trackwork Monday 24 July to Sunday 30 July 2023

    Here’s the update on scheduled trackwork affecting services. Plan your trip and work out any extra travel time you need. 

    • The biggest coordinated program of rail maintenance ever undertaken in Sydney has begun in response to te recent recommendations made by the expert panel conducting the Sydney Trains Review for restoring reliability to the network.
    • Maintenance work is being prioritized during the existing trackwork windows such as on weekends, weeknights, during school holidays or during weekday diversions when fewer people are catching trains. 
    • Train replacement buses may be impacted due to bus driver shortages. Consider catching local bus services where possible, or make alternative arrangements.

    City Circle

    Monday 24 July

    • From 9.50pm to 11.30pm, trains run in one direction only, from Central first stop Museum.
    • From 11.30pm to 1.30am, trains run in one direction only, from Central first stop Town Hall.
    • Some City Circle trains run to a changed timetable and leave from different platforms. 

    Wednesday 26 and Thursday 27 July

    • Nightly from 10.50pm to 1.30am, trains run in one direction only, from Central first stop Museum.
    • Trains may run to a changed timetable or leave from different platforms.
    • T1 Western, T8 Airport & South and T9 Northern Line trains start and end at Central.
    • T1 North Shore Line trains start and end at Wynyard.
    • Buses replace T2 Inner West & Leppington Line trains between Central and Ashfield.

    T1 North Shore Line

    Wednesday 25 and Thursday 26 July

    • Nightly from 10.50pm to 1.30am, trains run to a changed timetable between Hornsby and Wynyard only. From Wynyard you can catch the light rail, or a City Circle train towards Central, to continue your journey.

    T1 Western Line

    Tuesday 25 July

    • From 10.50pm to 1.30am, some trains make extra stops at Homebush and Burwood. 

    Wednesday 26 and Thursday 27 July

    • Nightly from 10.50pm to 1.30am, trains run between Penrith and Central, platforms 1-12 only, and make extra stops at Homebush and Burwood.

    T2 Inner West & Leppington Line

    Tuesday 25 July

    • Nightly from 10.50pm to 1.30am, buses replace trains between Ashfield and Central.
    • Leppington trains run between Leppington and Ashfield only, making extra stops at Homebush and Croydon.
    • Change at Strathfield for limited stop trains to and from the City. 

    Wednesday 26 and Thursday 27 July

    • Nightly from 10.50pm to 1.30am, buses replace trains between Ashfield and Central.
    • Leppington trains run between Leppington and Ashfield only, making extra stops at Homebush and Croydon.
    • Change at Strathfield for limited stop trains to and from Central. 

    Saturday 29 and Sunday 30 July

    • Extra limited-stop trains run between Ashfield and Kingsgrove via the City Circle and Airport.
    • Saturday from 6.30am to 10.40am, buses replace trains between Cabramatta and Granville.

    T3 Bankstown Line

    Saturday 29 and Sunday 30 July

    • Buses replace trains between Sydenham and Central. 

    T4 Eastern Suburbs & Illawarra Line

    Monday 24 July

    • From 10.40am to 1.30pm, trains run to a reduced frequency, changed timetable and stopping pattern.
    • Cronulla trains run between Cronulla and Sutherland, and between Hurstville and Bondi Junction only. You may need to change trains at Sutherland or Hurstville to continue your journey.
    • Waterfall trains continue to run between Waterfall and Bondi Junction, stopping at all stations between Sutherland and Hurstville.

    Monday 24 to Thursday 27 July

    • Nightly from 9.50pm to 2am, buses replace trains between Cronulla and Sutherland.
    • Tuesday from 11.15pm to 2am, buses also replace trains between Central and Bondi Junction.

    Saturday 29 and Sunday 30 July

    • Buses replace trains between Sydenham and Central, and between Central and Bondi Junction.
    • If you are travelling between T4 Illawarra Line stations and the City change trains at Wolli Creek for a T8 Airport Line train to continue your journey, in both directions.
    • Sunday from 4am to 10am, buses also replace trains between Waterfall and Sutherland, and between Hurstville and Central. Some buses start or end at Redfern.

    T5 Cumberland Line

    Saturday 29 July

    • From 6.30am to 10.40am, buses replace trains between Cabramatta and Granville.
    • From 10.40am to 1pm, trains run to a changed timetable between Leppington and the City via Granville, and between Schofields and Olympic Park.

    T8 Airport & South Line

    Wednesday 26 and Thursday 27 July

    • Nightly from 10.50pm to 1.30am, trains start and end at Central.
    • Change trains at Central to continue your journey. 

    Saturday 29 and Sunday 30 July

    • Extra limited-stop trains run between Kingsgrove and Ashfield via the Airport and City Circle.
    • Sunday from 4am to 10am, trackwork on the T4 Eastern Suburbs & Illawarra and South Coast lines may affect how you travel.

    T9 Northern Line

    Tuesday 25 July

    • Nightly from 10.50pm to 1.30am, some trains towards the City make extra stops at Croydon and Ashfield.
    • Some trains from the City make an extra stop at Croydon. 

    Wednesday 26 and Thursday 27 July

    • Nightly from 10.50pm to 1.30am, trains run between Hornsby and Central, platforms 1-12 only.
    • Some trains towards Hornsby make an extra stop at Croydon.

    Blue Mountains Line

    Saturday 29 and Sunday 30 July

    • Most trains run between Blue Mountains Line stations and Blacktown only. Change trains at Blacktown to continue your journey.
    • The 04:24 Central to Lithgow service will start from Central.

    Central Coast & Newcastle Line

    Saturday 29 and Sunday 30 July

    • Most trains run between Central Coast & Newcastle Line stations and Strathfield only. Change trains at Strathfield to continue your journey.
    • The 01:48 Central to Newcastle Interchange service will start from Central. 
    • Saturday from 6.30am to 11.05am, at Cowan, all trains leave from platform 2. 
    • Sunday from 6.40am to 10.45am, at Cowan, all trains leave from platform 1. 

    Hunter Line

    Thursday 27 July

    • From 8.45am to 11.15am, buses replace trains between Maitland and Muswellbrook.

    South Coast Line

    Saturday 29 and Sunday 30 July

    • Trains run to a changed timetable and stopping pattern between South Coast Line stations and Waterfall only. Change trains at Waterfall to continue your journey.
    • Sunday from 4am to 10am, buses replace trains between Waterfall and Central.

    Southern Highlands Line

    Saturday 29 July

    • From 10am to 4pm, buses replace trains between Campbelltown and Moss Vale
