Reduced services
Due to staff availability, there may be changes to some public transport services. With a large number of staff isolating, some services may need to be cancelled over the next few weeks as we work to balance timetable requirements with staff availability.
Major works this summer
Works continue on some of the state’s biggest transport projects this summer. Critical maintenance works will also take place on our rail, tram and road networks to ensure services continue to run reliably.
There’ll be disruptions to the public transport and road networks while these works take place. Be sure to plan ahead and allow extra time or take an alternative route if possible.
Timetable changes on the Cranbourne Line
Passengers on the Cranbourne Line will benefit from more trains, more often, with 50 extra services per week from Sunday 13 February 2022.
The new timetable will see 30 peak services extended from Westall or Dandenong to Cranbourne each week, giving passengers more choice during busy times.
Another 20 daytime services will be extended to and from Cranbourne while five non-peak services will be extended to Pakenham each week.
Metro Trains
Belgrave and Lilydale Lines
- Buses replace trains between Blackburn, Lilydale and Belgrave stations from 8.40pm to last train on Sunday 27 February.
Craigieburn Line
- Craigieburn line trains will run direct to and from Flinders Street, not via the City Loop from 5.30am Saturday 19 February to last train Sunday 20 February, due to works.
- Craigieburn line trains will run direct to and from Flinders Street, not via the City Loop from 9pm Friday 25 February to last train Sunday 27 February.
Cranbourne and Pakenham Lines
- Cranbourne and Pakenham trains will run direct to and from Flinders Street, not via the City Loop, from 6am Saturday 19 February to last train Sunday 20 February, due to works.
- Trains on the Cranbourne and Pakenham lines will only run to/from Caulfield Station from 9pm to last train each night from Sunday 20 February to Thursday 24 February, due to works.
Frankston Line
- Buses replace trains between Moorabbin and Frankston stations from 8.40pm to last train each night from Monday 14 February to Wednesday 16 February, due to works.
- Buses replace trains between Caulfield and Mordialloc stations from 8.30pm Friday 25 February to last service Sunday 27 February 2022.
Sunbury Line
- Buses replace Sunbury line trains between North Melbourne and Sunshine stations from 8.45pm to last train each night from Tuesday 15 February to Thursday 17 February 2022, due to works.
- Buses replace trains between Sunshine and Sunbury stations from 12.45am Saturday 19 February to last service Sunday 20 February 2022, due to works.
- Buses replace trains between North Melbourne/Sunshine and Sunbury stations at select times between 8.30pm Monday 21 February and last service Sunday 27 February.
Sunbury and Upfield Lines
- Sunbury and Upfield Line trains will run direct to and from Southern Cross, not via the City Loop, from 5am Saturday 19 February to 1.15am Sunday 20 February and then from 6.15am Sunday 20 February to last train Sunday 20 February, due to works.
Upfield Line
- Buses replace trains between North Melbourne and Upfield stations from 8.05pm Friday 25 February to last train Sunday 27 February.
Werribee Line
- Buses replace trains between Newport and Laverton from 8.30pm Friday 18 February to 3am Saturday 19 February, due to level crossing removal works.
- Buses replace trains between Laverton and Werribee from from 8.30pm Friday 18 February to last service Wednesday 23 February, due to level crossing removal works.
Werribee and Williamstown Lines
- Buses replace trains between North Melbourne, Werribee and Williamstown from 8pm to last service each night, Sunday 20 February to last service Wednesday 23 February 2022.
Williamstown Line
- Buses replace trains between Newport and Williamstown from 8.30pm Friday 18 February to last service Sunday 20 February.

- Route 70 trams will be affected by service changes from 9pm Friday 11 February to last tram Friday 18 February 2022, due to track works along Swan Street.
Routes 86
- Route 86 trams will experience service changes from 3am to last tram on Sunday 13 February, due to road closures associated with the Melbourne Pride Festival in Gertrude Street, Fitzroy.
V/Line
Albury, Seymour and Shepparton Lines
- Coaches will replace some Albury line trains for the entire journey on Monday 21 February and Tuesday 22 February.
- Coaches will replace select evening trains on the Seymour Line for the entire journey on Friday 25 February and Saturday 26 February.
- Coaches will replace some Albury line trains for the entire journey on on Saturday 26 February.
- Coaches replace Shepparton line trains for the entire journey on Saturday 26 February and Sunday 27 February.
Bairnsdale and Traralgon Lines
- Bairnsdale and Traralgon line trains will run at slower than normal speeds along parts of the line from Monday 14 February to Wednesday 9 March 2022.
- Coaches will replace all Gippsland trains for the entire journey between Southern Cross, Traralgon and Bairnsdale on Sunday 20 February.
- Road coaches replace trains on the Bairnsdale and Traralgon lines at select times from Saturday 26 February to Thursday 3 March
Ballarat Line
- Coaches replace evening trains on the Ballarat line from Wednesday 23 February to Saturday 26 February.
Bendigo, Echuca and Swan Hill Lines
- Coaches replace trains on the Swan Hill line for all or part of the journey from Monday 7 February to Sunday 27 February.
- Coaches replace Bendigo and Echuca trains for the entire journey from Thursday 17 February to Sunday 27 February.
Geelong Line
- Coaches replace select Geelong evening trains for all or part of the journey from Sunday 20 February to Tuesday 22 February 2022.
- Coaches will replace select evening trains on the Geelong Line for the entire journey evening trains on Saturday 26 February 2022.
