Network Rail is monitoring track steel temperatures closely. To prevent line buckling, critical adjustments have been made to rail travel today:
Northern Rail (Leeds & Sheffield): The high-speed “Yorkshire Flyer” fast service between Leeds and Sheffield is suspended today to ease congestion on heat-restricted tracks. Local stopping lines remain open but are facing short-notice carriage reductions and 15–20 minute delays.
LNER (East Coast Main Line): Speed limits on the main line out of Leeds toward London King’s Cross are causing delays. LNER has introduced travel easements from Tuesday through Thursday, allowing users with tickets to travel flexibly outside peak heat windows.
Chesterfield Points Failure: Adding to the heat strain, a points failure near Chesterfield has blocked Northern services running between Nottingham, Sheffield, and Leeds, forcing several mid-day trains to terminate early at Sheffield.
