COVID-19 Updates for Boston

    MBTA Updates

    Effective May 6, all riders and employees are required to wear a face-covering while riding the T.

    The following changes to service and operations have been made to protect the health and safety of essential workers who rely on public transit, as well as our frontline staff.

    MBTA Bus and Silver Line:

    MBTA Commuter Rail:

    MBTA Ferry:

    MBTA The Ride:

    • All trips must be booked 1 – 3 days in advance. Previously booked trips are not affected by this change.
    • The RIDE will make every effort to eliminate transfer trips to reduce customer interaction with multiple drivers. All shared trips have been eliminated.

    ***July 3rd Service Updates

    • Saturday service on all routes, in observance of Independence Day.

    MBTA Subway:

    Southeastern Regional Transit Authority (SRTA) Updates

    • SRTA has increased its level of service starting June 22
    • SRTA still requires face masks for passengers

    MetroWest Regional Transit Authority (MWRTA) Updates

    • MWRTA is running on a modified schedule until further notice
    • MWRTA now requires face masks for passengers
    • The Framingham Commuter Shuttle schedule will be revised to meet the new, increased MBTA Commuter Rail times.
    • Effective Monday, June 1, 2020 MWRTA will add frequency to Routes 2, 4 North, and 10 during the peak morning and evening commuter times.

    • There will be no Fixed Route service on Independence Day – Saturday, July 4, 2020. Regular Fixed Route service will resume on Monday, July 6th, 2020.

    Rhode Island Public Transit Authority (RIPTA) Updates 

    • RIPTA is asking passengers to wear cloth face masks on board
    • To help ensure that there is enough room for proper social distancing, we have reduced the number of passengers on board.
      No more than 15 passengers will be allowed on any fixed-route bus.
    • Summer Service Changes have gone into effect as of June 20 – for more info see the link found HERE

    Lowell Regional Transit Authority (LRTA) Updates

    • The LRTA is providing transportation for ESSENTIAL TRIPS ONLY.
    • Riders must be traveling to an essential destination. All riders are required to exit the bus at the end of its route. Multiple or consecutive round trips are not permitted and riders who appear to be loitering on the bus will be asked to deboard.

    • To Observe Independence Day, The LRTA will be CLOSED on Saturday, July 4th.

    Merrimack Valley Regional Transit Authority (MVRTA) Updates 

    • Merrimack Valley Regional Transit Authority has made service reductions in response to the COVID-19 pandemic
    • In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, all passengers are REQUIRED to wear a nose and mouth covering on-board ALL MVRTA VEHICLES AND WAITING AREAS as of Wednesday, May 6, 2020
    •  ROUTE 83 to Salisbury/Hampton Beach has been cancelled for the month of July 2020.
    • There will be no bus or van service on Saturday, July 4, 2020 in observance of Independence Day.  The Boston Commuter service remains canceled due to COVID-19. MVRTA will continue to run a reduced schedule on Friday, July 3, and Monday, July 6, 2020.
