Sydney & NSW - Trackwork Monday 1 to Sunday 7 July 2024

    Here’s the update on scheduled trackwork affecting services. Plan your trip and work out any extra travel time you need. 

    • The biggest coordinated program of rail maintenance ever undertaken in Sydney has begun in response to te recent recommendations made by the expert panel conducting the Sydney Trains Review for restoring reliability to the network.
    • Maintenance work is being prioritized during the existing trackwork windows such as on weekends, weeknights, during school holidays or during weekday diversions when fewer people are catching trains. 
    • Train replacement buses may be impacted due to bus driver shortages. Consider catching local bus services where possible, or make alternative arrangements.

    Metro

    Tuesday 2 to Thursday 4 July

    • Nightly from 8.40pm, buses replace metro services from Tallawong to Chatswood.
    • Nightly from 9.20pm, buses replace metro services from Chatswood to Tallawong.

    City Circle

    Tuesday 2 to Thursday 4 July 

    • Nightly from 9.40pm to 1.30am, trains run in one direction only, from Central first stop Town Hall.
    • Some trains may start or end at Central, run to a changed timetable or leave from different platforms.
    • You may need to change trains to continue your journey.
    • The light rail runs in both directions between Circular Quay, Wynyard, Town Hall and Central.

    T2 Inner West & Leppington Line

    Saturday 6 July  

    • From 6.30am to 10.30am, Inner West trains run between Ashfield and the City Circle only.
    • Leppington trains make extra stops at Homebush and Croydon.

    T4 Eastern Suburbs & Illawarra Line

    Monday 1, Wednesday 3 and Thursday 4 July   

    • Nightly from 9.50pm to 1.30am, buses replace trains between Central and Bondi Junction.
    • Trains run to a changed timetable between Waterfall or Cronulla and North Sydney. 

    Saturday 6 and Sunday 7 July   

    • Buses replace trains between Cronulla, Waterfall and Sydenham.
    • Change at Sydenham for T3 trains between Sydenham and the City Circle.
    • Trains run between Sydenham and the City Circle, and between Central and Bondi Junction, some to a changed timetable. 

    From Monday 8 to Sunday 14 July, trackwork between Waterfall and Sutherland may also affect how you travel.

    T5 Cumberland Line

    Tuesday 2 and Wednesday 3 July

    • Nightly from 11.50pm to 1.30am, some trains run to a changed timetable between Richmond or Leppington and Olympic Park only. Some trains end at Granville.
    • You may need to change trains at Granville to continue your journey. 

    T8 Airport & South Line

    Tuesday 2 to Thursday 4 July  

    • Nightly from 9.40pm to 1.30am, trains start and end at Central. Change trains at Central to continue your journey.

    Saturday 6 and Sunday 7 July  

    • Trackwork on the T4 Illawarra and South Coast lines may affect how you travel.
    • Change at:
      – Central for T4 Eastern Suburbs Line trains, or buses to South Coast Line stations
      – Wolli Creek for buses to T4 Illawarra Line stations.

    Central Coast & Newcastle Line

    Monday 1 to Thursday 4 July

    • Nightly from 8.45pm to 3.30am, buses replace trains between Newcastle Interchange and Wyong.
    • Buses towards Wyong may leave up to 60 minutes earlier than the normal train timetable.

    Hunter Line

    Friday 28 June to Monday 1 July

    • From 5am Friday to 9.15pm Monday, buses replace trains between Scone and Muswellbrook.
    • Some buses from Scone will continue to Maitland to connect with trains towards Newcastle Interchange.

    Monday 1 to Thursday 4 July

    • Nightly from 10.20pm to 1am, some trains towards Telarah run up to 20 minutes later than the normal timetable, due to trackwork on the Central Coast & Newcastle Line.​

    Thursday 4 July

    • Buses replace the following trains between Scone and Maitland:
      – 03:18 Newcastle Interchange to Scone
      – 06:07 Scone to Newcastle Interchange
    • Buses replace the following trains between Muswellbrook and Maitland:
      – 08:14 Newcastle Interchange to Muswellbrook
      – 10:09 Muswellbrook to Newcastle Interchange.

    South Coast Line

    Monday 1, Wednesday 3 and Thursday 4 July  

    • Nightly from 9.50pm to 1.30am, buses replace trains between Central and Bondi Junction.
    • Trains run between South Coast Line stations and the City Circle.

    Thursday 4 July  

    • From 9.20am to 2.15pm, buses replace trains between Port Kembla and Wollongong.
    • Buses towards Wollongong may leave stations up to 15 minutes earlier than the normal train timetable. 

    Saturday 6 and Sunday 7 July  

    • Buses replace trains between Dapto, Port Kembla and Central.

    From Monday 8 to Sunday 14 July, trackwork on parts of the South Coast Line may also affect how you travel
